About the Author
Shoshin Nagamine was a practitioner and master of Okinawan karate-do for more than sixty years. At the time of his death in 1997, he held a tenth dan black belt, the highest rank of any active karate instructor in the world. He was also awarded the title of hanshi, the highest title in the art of karate, by the All Okinawan Karate-do Association.

About the Author
Dr. Pierre Rouzier is a family physician who practice sports medicine. He is a team physician at the University of Massachusettts at Amherst and assistant professor in the department of Family Medicine and Community Health, University of Massachusetts Family Practice Residency. He has his certificate of added qualification in sports medicine. Dr. Rouzier has worked in the Indian Health Service with the White Mountain Apache tribe and has been the assistant director of the St. Mary's Family Practice Residency in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Dr. Rouzier enjoys mountain biking, running, downhill and cross-country skiing, coaching children's sports, and traveling. He and his wife, Arlene, have two sons, Anthony and Nicholas.

Use it everyday in Family Medicine Practice

I am a family physician 8 years out of residency.
I still use this almost everyday for help with diagnosis as well as guidelines for treatment.
Besides sports injuries it also has a helpful section on general workouts, pregnancy workouts, nutrition...
The only way this could be better is if you could get a CD or weblink to print out the handouts. I wore out the binding pretty quick laying it open on a copier.

Ready for Sci Fi TV Series

This is a hot, quick moving space adventure.

The swagger of John Wayne behind a ship-flying Marshall - out for justice at any price. It has the legit feel of the Old West without being sappy or feeling forced.

Although the entire story line and character set is vastly different, it has the feeling of Firefly - the Sci Fi series, and I think this would make just as good a TV series; and we are really about due for a new space series.

There is room to go both into the past and into the future with these characters - so I hope there are more installments ....

I look forward to a whole series of Heck Thomas ...

About the Author
Michael Alan Park (Ph.D. Indiana, 1979) is a professor of anthropology at Central Connecticut State University, where he has been on the faculty since 1973, teaching courses in general anthropology, human evolution, biocultural diversity, human ecology, forensic anthropology, and the evolution of human behavior. His interests focus on the application of evolutionary theory to the story of human evolution and on the quality of science education and the public perception and understanding of scientific matters. Digitized Version has many errors

Was excited to obtain a digitized, Kindle copy, but have quickly become disappointed and frustrated by all of the errors resulting from the conversion from hard copy to digital. It is obvious that no care was taken to ensure that the information was correctly converted to the digital format, and persons wanting to use this media for genealogy research will soon find that important dates are incorrectly represented (example: "...upon his marriage, 179S,.." should read as "....1798,...."). I'm now considering purchasing a hard copy to ensure that I have usable information.

Works in class, but would be near impossible without a teacher

The book tells you all you need to know about Statistics, and everything you need to know about Excel.

The only thing it does not do is tell you how to solve specific Math-problems in Excel in plain-text. Which means you have to look for the answer of how to do things in Excel in the back of every chapter. The book never gives you a single example where they tell you which buttons to click to solve a particular problem.

It is like the book is written by two people: One who knows everything about statistics, and one who knows everything about Excel. But they didn't work together in creating the book. You learn about statistics, and you learn about Excel, but how to Excel to solve those particular tricky problems is left out.

Man oh man. I passed this MBA course, but it was TOUGH. The content in this book is the stuff my nightmares are made of.....but at least I could follow the information. The subject matter is extremely time-consuming. I spent several hours everyday for 10 weeks studying this book. All of the details are there, but it just takes time to learn this material. I like the way the book is illustrated.

Clear, concise, helpful text for a beginning grad student!

I am a first year graduate student "accidentally" entering the field of neuroscience. I needed a basic text to help me "catch up". This book has been wonderful! The authors' have a great writing style- easy to read. More importantly, the authors are expert at choosing and presenting important, basic aspects of neurobiology to inexperienced neuroscientists without bogging the reader down with unnecessary and confusing detail. In particular, the authors thoroughly discuss ion channels and their role in neuronal communication, presenting electrophysiology as a valuable tool for studying these channels. This text was "just right" for me. However, if you are an advanced "neuroscientist", this text might be a bit on the "simple" side.

A great introductory book on neuroscience

I am a physics graduate student who happen to become interested in neuroscience. I had been searching for an introductory book when I stumbled upon this one. Although I am only half-way through the book right now, I could already tell that it is exactly what a newcomer to this field would need. With the terminology clearly defined, the book gives a very concise, clear, and logic description on the fundamentals. It further keeps one's interest high by relating the fundamental knowledges to everyday experiences. What I like most about this book is that it does not shy away from pointing out what is not yet known. With the last chapter devoted to "open questions", it presents the real questions to be answered. This book is really perfect. Highly recommended.

Wish I had learned about this book before

I'm a 3rd year graduate student in neuroscience, currently studying synaptic transmission with an electrophysiological approach. With biotechnology as an undergrad, let's just say my neurophysiology background was far from being strong. My PI recommended me this book a couple of weeks ago and I'm just loving it. The part on synaptic transmission (chapters 9 to 11) is simply great. I find things that I've read about MANY times before, on books like Kandel's, Fundamental Neuroscience, and many of the classic big textbooks, but none of them deals with this part as this one does. It's kind of the same issues but with a slightly different perspective, a perspective that I think you're able to appreciate more as you gain some experience in the field. Little details, certain experiments that you might have overlooked as a first year student, suddenly make all the sense. I don't think this is an overly simple book. It is really well written, and that's what I think makes it kind of reader-friendly but again, somehow it gets to deal with classical issues and concepts in a much deeper and USEFUL way (particularly for people actually working on this) than the great majority of other textbooks in this area. As I said in the title of my review, I wish I had learned about this book before, and that's the reason I'm writing this. Hope it helps :)
